About

My name is Jenna.
I'm 26, living in a small town in southern West Virginia.

I am an introvert masquerading as an extrovert.
I play the flute, like professionally.
I love adventures, good books, and my cat.
I like scarves, thrift stores, and lattes.
I believe that cute, character Band-Aids make everything better.
I obsessively collect books, coffee mugs, and colorful pens.

This blog is my feeble attempt at connecting what is available to us in the world to what is available to us in The Word.  God tells us in Romans 12:2 (NIV) that we are not to "conform to the pattern[s] of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."  To me, I see this as realizing that God is in everything and can work through everything.  The books that I read, the movies and tv shows that I watch, the everyday activities of my life--they all teach me lessons of how to or not to behave, or remind me of how blessed I actually am.

So what about the title?  I actually labored over this decision for too long.  And as I was browsing Pinterest one day, I came upon a graphic of a quote by Roald Dahl that I just adore:

If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely. --Roald Dahl

And how true that is!  It really got me thinking, so I googled the word "sunbeams."  One of the origins is in Olde English, which in turn comes from Latin.  Long story short, its origin means "pillar of light."  God appeared as a pillar of fire (to give off light) during the Israelites' exodus from Egypt (Exodus 13:21).  He led His people through darkness so they could reach the Promised Land.  And then, many centuries later, Jesus tells us that WE are the light of the world, and that we are not to hide that light (Matthew 5:14-16).  So it occurred to me that I am supposed to be a sunbeam, a pillar of light, for those in my life--whether physically or through the Internet--who are lost or maybe have strayed away from Jesus Christ.  I know...that's a huge thought process for one simple little quote!

I hope that you will join me on my life adventures in trying to find the connection to God in this old world.
